Making The Most of your Headshot

You Only Get One First Impression!

A professional headshot is essential to your personal branding. It is usually your first opportunity to show an image of professionalism and trustworthiness while giving credibility to who you are and what you do. A great headshot will invite others to want to make a personal connection with you.

The Tone

•How do you want prospective clients to see you? Warm, confident, professional, approachable, it depends on your industry.

•Think about the look you want to achieve. Do you want soft, even light, or something a bit edgier? What color background should you use?

Grooming

•Best advice is to get a good night's sleep for that extra sparkle in your smile and be hydrated!

Waxing and Facials:

Headshots are, by nature, a close-up photograph. Although our retouchers are amazing, facial hair, especially around the mouth corners, can be very difficult to remove digitally. It's your call, but if it's an issue, I do recommend waxing.   Please do not do them less than three days before your session, as they can cause redness.

Make-up:

Ladies: Yes, if you would feel better, but I recommend having it done professionally, and be sure to communicate that you are being photographed. That said, it's OK if you don't.

Men: No, unless there is a specific reason, follow the advice above advice I gave the ladies. Some men do have issues with oily skin, and we keep blotting tissues on hand for that.

Hair:

Ladies: This one is totally up to you. You know what you want your hair to look like. However, I would recommend settling down those flyaways.

Men: Your call, Dude. If you get it cut or styled, do it about a week before, so you have time to settle into it and let exposed tan lines fade. I strongly recommend some extra care grooming your facial hair. You know what I mean, watch your ears, nose, eyebrows, and neck.

We highly recommend and use Shayla at Beauty and Belief. She can be reached at 406.624.6231 for both men and women.

Dress for Success

•Dress appropriately for your profession. Think of it as dressing for a presentation or interview.

•Solid colors are best. Avoid bright, distracting colors, busy patterns, flesh tones, and pastels.

•Simple necklines and minimal jewelry keep attention on your face.

Most importantly, relax and have fun. With our skill in lighting, posing, smile extraction, and retouching, you'll look your absolute best.
